I was about to work on a car once when I was a tech for Lexus and at the moment I opened the hood, a giant opossum (or possum however you spell it) jumped out and was hanging to my shirt. I screamed like a giant girly/man. I grabbed it and threw on in the trash can super fast. It jumped out of the trash and took off running to the parking lot.

Those screams are the worst, especially around friends.

The first time I ever fully stopped on a road and used all 155 HP my Mazda3 has to get going something odd happened.

Midnight time... no one up. Beautiful newly paved pitch black road. Windows down. Slowed to a stop and stopped just around a corner with a long expanse in front. This was my first time and I'd only been driving manual for a week... I got the RPMS to 2000 (I wasn't brave enough to go higher and I still haven't done this again. Been busy.) and half dumped/glided the clutch in some weird way that the car jerked, sputtered, and then jerked and started moving forward with more gusto than usual. Right then a bad time was almost had.

A freaking deer comes out of nowhere upon me reaching 60 MPH and dashes into the road and leaps RIGHT in front of me. Had I been one inch farther I swear my (parents') car would have suffered major damage. That scared the crap out of me for the next month and by the time I was unshaken by that I'd moved and couldn't use that lovely road anymore. It was like this

but closer.

A while ago someone posted on here a Japanese Psa ad telling people to remember to check their hoods for stray cats in the mornings

My theory is that people are crazier the closer the water table is to the surface of the ground ... and I'm sticking with it despite my complete lack of scientific evidence.

Not too long after I got my license, I was driving my Fiat, had the top down, Mom in the car, when a pigeon came flying across the road from the passenger side. It was just higher than the frame of the windshield, and as it came past, it got sucked into the cabin and flew between me and the windshield.

It probably has something to do with the air pressure from lower elevation....probably.

I opened up the hood on my late grandmother's car (may she RIP) after we moved it up here and a cat flew out of the engine compartment at damn near the speed of sound. It was laying right around in this area:

Startled the shit out of me. I'm not sure if it was a hitchhiker (I had the car shipped from Southern Cali to Minnesota!) or a neighborhood stray. I've never seen it around here before or since. Not a great story but it's my only funny-ish animal+cars related story I have.

Intriguing to say the least, that would be crazy if the cat made it from Cali.

I left for school one morning in my little turbo Toyota pickup. It was about 30 degrees outside. I fired it up, warmed for a minute or so and took off on my merry way. One mile from home the truck started dogging pretty badly. I stopped, popped the hood and found a cute widdle cuddly bunny wabbit sitting on my valve cover. It was nice and toasty, a tad scared, and chewed through every vacuum line and wire it could find.

Cute widdle motherfucker cost me a weekend and a hundred bucks.
